A DEMANDING, INNOVATIVE AND CARING PEDAGOGY

At My School in the Hills, we believe it is possible to combine pedagogical freedom with high educational standards. Our approach is inspired by recognized methods, within a structured, supportive, and rigorous framework. Each child is guided in acquiring the key skills for their grade level, in line with the expectations of the Common Core. We are committed to ensuring that each student has a solid foundation, enabling them to confidently continue their schooling, whatever their future path may hold. That is why, at My School in the Hills, we do not follow a single model: we draw from several pedagogical approaches, with flexibility and common sense. We are particularly inspired by Maria Montessori, Célestin Freinet, and the Reggio Emilia approach, as well as more recent movements related to nature-based education, self-directed learning, and active experimentation. Our pedagogy is designed to serve the child, respecting their pace, their needs, and their natural desire to learn. We are fortunate to have Thierry Pardo as our patron. A researcher with a doctorate in Education, author, and thinker on free education, his reflections deeply inform our approach. His perspective reinforces our conviction: educational freedom is not the absence of structure, but a conscious and demanding choice. Our teacher, Mylène, guides the children daily within a structured, supportive, and enriching environment, while remaining committed to the national curriculum standards. We are dedicated to ensuring each student has a solid foundation that will allow them to confidently pursue their education, whatever path they may take. For us, providing a child-friendly environment does not preclude pedagogical rigor or mastery of fundamental knowledge.

Collaborative management

Our school operates largely thanks to the involvement of families, based on cooperation and shared responsibility. Thus, small daily tasks such as cleaning, tidying, and light maintenance of classroom spaces are organized collectively, in a spirit of participation. Everyone can contribute to school life and the care of its environment, according to their availability.

The role of families in school life

At My School in the Hills, we firmly believe that education is a collective adventure. Members of the association, having experienced homeschooling themselves, envisioned a school that values co-education: a respectful collaboration between the teaching staff and families. Within this framework, the teacher remains the primary guide for the student's educational journey, while also welcoming the contributions and unique perspectives of families on a daily basis. It is a supported and structured co-education, where everyone's roles are clear and complementary. Parental involvement can take many forms: - Participation in teacher meetings and discussion sessions, - Involvement in shared workshops (crafts, nature, artistic expression, etc.), - Help with school maintenance, events, or specific tasks, - Sharing personal skills or simply offering a supportive presence.

Involvement is tailored to each individual, respecting the time and capabilities of each family.

A THOUSAND THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT!
